At City Lights Theater Company, we offer a few different ways to experience our shows, each with its own flavor and purpose. These types of performances aren’t just a City Lights tradition – they’re standard practice at many theaters around the country. Here’s what to expect:
Preview Performances:
Think of previews as the final dress rehearsals…with a live audience! These performances happen just before the official opening, and give our creative team a chance to fine-tune the show based on audience reactions. The lights, the lines, and the pacing are all nearly there, but still open to a little magic-making. While it’s rare, the director can pause the show to fix a technical hiccup or make adjustments for future performances. By attending a preview, you’re not just watching: You’re helping shape the final version of the production.
Pay What You Can:
One of our preview performances is always designated as “Pay What You Can.” And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like! We offer this performance as part of our commitment to accessibility by inviting everyone to experience live theater, regardless of budget. Whether you’re dipping your toes into the arts or returning for your tenth show, we welcome you to choose a ticket price that works for you. Every seat filled helps build a more inclusive, vibrant community.
Opening Night:
The curtain rises, the energy crackles, and the cast is ready for opening night! After weeks of rehearsal and two previews, this is our official launch. It’s a celebration of everyone’s hard work: the actors, designers, crew, and you, our audience. Opening night comes with a festive buzz, and it marks the beginning of the show’s full run. Come dressed to cheer, laugh, gasp, and applaud. We’re thrilled to share the finished production with you.
