City Lights is honored to share our space with Bay Area Drama Company for their production of “The Square Root of a Sonnet” by Nilanjan P. Choudhury on the City Lights stage. Ambition, friendship and betrayal amidst the emerging science of black holes: This is the story of Nobel laureate S. Chandrasekhar and his mentor at Cambridge, Sir Arthur Eddington.

Directed by Ranjita Chakravarty, the play runs from April 29 through May 1, 2022. Performances are 100 minutes and recommended for ages 12 and up.

Cast: Basab Pradhan, Brian Levi, Vibeka Sen Sisodiya and Sara Trupski.

Before each performance, there will be a five-minute introduction to the history of the science of black holes by Raja GuhaThakurta, professor and department chair, astronomy & astrophysics, U.C. Santa Cruz. After each show, there will be a talkback with Raja GuhaThakurta, Ranjita Chakravarty, and Bay Area Drama Company Artistic Director Basab Pradhan.
