Why you should see Dream Hou$e
Because it’s like Encanto, if the house had opinions about gentrification and reality TV.
Because Dave Osmundsen from the New Play Exchange calls it “a wonderfully chaotic and beautifully messy satire about heritage, family, and what is worth hanging on to.”
Because flipping a house shouldn’t mean flipping your identity.
Because you’ll laugh, gasp, and question every HGTV decision you’ve ever made.
Synopsis
Two Latina sisters are appearing on a reality show to sell their family home, hoping to capitalize on the gentrification in their neighborhood. As they perform for the camera, this comedy with a twist starts to slip into the surreal. One sister grapples with turmoil in their ancestral past, and the other learns how much she’ll sacrifice for the family’s future. A contemporary play that asks: What is the cultural cost of progress in America? And is cashing in always selling out?
